Thomas Kinkade Little Mermaid Canvas

The creation of “The Little Mermaid” much like “Tinker Bell and Peter Pan Fly to Neverland”,  presented special technical and aesthetic challenges for Thom that were not present in most of the other Disney paintings.  Thematically, this film deals with the clash between two worlds and how to best integrate them together.  So it was with the painting. Thomas had to bring the undersea world of Ariel’s childhood into peace with the land-bound life she so longed for with her beloved, Prince Eric.  He felt the sea life at the bottom of the composition did this, allowing both parts of Ariel’s life, past and future, in all their regal and colorful glory.

Thom has not deviated from the fantastic panoramic narratives that he has told so well in the Disney Dreams Collection releases.  In The Little Mermaid you will find some of the most beloved and villainous characters from the movie including Ariel, Prince Eric, Sebastian, Flounder, Ursula, King Triton, Scuttle and Ariel’s sisters.

Thomas Kinkade Beauty and the Beast Canvas

Of all the Disney love stories, perhaps Beauty and the Beast is the most poignant. Beast’s true identity is a charming prince who is discovering love in the form of the beautiful Belle. In this painting Thomas Kinkade memorializes that magic moment when they first begin to discover their love for each other. Many of the characters from the movie are present, including Belle’s eccentric father Maurice, the wonderful characters of Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and of course, Lumiere. In the distance, we see the village that is a central setting for many of the film’s most important moments. As with every piece in the Disney Dreams Collection, Thomas Kinkade attempted to portray a panorama of the entire movie, rather than an individual scene. His desire is that the viewer’s eye would wander around the painting making discoveries in every corner of the image.

A tradition in the Disney Dreams Collection is hiding characters from other Disney films within each painting. Look carefully throughout each piece and see what other Disney characters you can find in the background! This is another good reason as to why the larger size canvases look even more stunning-the attention to detail in the paintings and the inclusion of the ‘hidden’ characters within them. The Beauty and the Beast painting features Tinkerbell, Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi and the mice from Cinderella all ‘hidden’ within.

Thomas Kinkade Peter Pan Canvas

As with the first two paintings in the Disney Dreams Collection, Thomas Kinkade tells the whole story in a single image – what he refer’s to as a “narrative panorama”. We see Neverland in the distance, just below the “second star to the right”, as the full moon bathes the scene with its silvery glow. The lights of London twinkle along the river Thames, as the clouds take shape, if only in our imagination, as characters from the adventure – Captain Hook, Smee, the Lost Boys and the ubiquitous ticking crocodile.
